Title: Transportation Radiometer In Fire Characterization
Author: Larryl Matthews, Randy Logenbaugh, Robert Mata
Abstract: Transportation radiometers have been used to measure radiative heat fluxes in large, sooty pool fires. These gages have been designed to withstand severe environments and to keep the sensing area soot free. The radiometers are described and information concerning response, sensitivity and various operating parameters is presented.

Title: AVGAS/AUTOGAS Comparison: Winter Fuels
Author: Augusto M. Ferrara
Abstract: This report describes dynamometer tests which simulated conditions found in a general aviation aircraft. In these tests, automobile gasoline was tested and compared with aviation gasoline. The tendency for vapor lock and detonation was measured as a function of gasoline grade, Reid Vapor Pressure, and the age of the fuel.

Title: Extinguishing Agent for Magnesium Fire: Phases I-IV
Author: Robert E. Tapscott, Harold D. Beeson, Michael E. Lee, Martin A. Plugge, Dennis M. Zallen, Joseph L. Walker, Phyllis Campbell
Abstract: This report evaluates the effectiveness of existing extinguishing agents for metal fires. Testing of the new modified extinguishing agents for general configuration proved suppression and extinguishing capabilities. Therefore, extensions of existing agents via addition/reformulations were evaluated. As a result of these evaluations, an effective metal fire extinguishing system was developed. Preliminary large scale tests were conducted and the performance of the system was evaluated.

Title: Optimization Of Aircraft Interior Panels
Author: D.A. Kourtides
Abstract: Eight different graphite composite panels were fabricated using four different resin matrices. The resin matrices include4 Hercules 71775, a blend of vinylpolystyrpyridine and bismaleimide, H795, a bismaleimide, Cycom 6162, a phenolic, and PSP 6022M, a polystyrylpyridine. Graphite panels were fabricated using fabric or unidirectional tape. This report describes the processes for preparing these panels and some of their mechanical, thermal and flammability properties. Panel properties are compared with state-of-the-art epoxy fiberglass composite panels.

Title: Fire Fighting In Aircraft: Halon's Job
Author: Aviation Safety
Abstract: Fire is among an airman's most dreaded enemies. Any pilot sooner or later realizes that he sits in a sealed container full of flammable materials, with high flammable gasoline, oil and brake fluid not far away, and with numerous sources of ignition around to start a blaze.
